State Education Policy: A Blueprint for Tomorrow’s Tamil Nadu!

The launch of the State Education Policy–2025 was grandly held on behalf of the School Education Department at the Anna Centenary Library Hall in Kotturpuram, Chennai, under the leadership of the Honourable Chief Minister Thiru M. K. Stalin.

At this event, 910 government school students who had secured admission to premier higher education institutions in the current academic year were presented with certificates of appreciation and laptops.

In his opening address at the event, Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi proudly stated, “Since the formation of the Dravidian Model government, the number of government school students securing admission to prestigious higher education institutions has multiplied many times over.” Admissions, which stood at just 75 students in 2021–22, have risen to 910 students this year.

He noted that the State Education Policy was formulated with the guidance of 15 educationists and based on the views of students, parents, and teachers.

Political Commitment and Educational Safeguard

Criticising the National Education Policy 2020 strongly, he declared, “We do not want an NEP that controls you by saying, ‘This is all that is prescribed for you.’ What we need is a State Education Policy that uplifts you and inspires you by saying, ‘The world is waiting for you!’”

Words and Deeds

He praised our Honourable Chief Minister as one who cherishes education and healthcare as the two eyes of the state. Not only in words but also in action, the Honourable Chief Minister has nurtured them as the primary goals of the Dravidian Model government and has been achieving remarkable progress in this regard.

Festival of Knowledge

Speaking next, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin said that the Tamil Nadu School Education Department has been achieving countless milestones, setting an example for the entire country. He extended his love and congratulations to the government school students who have secured admission to premier higher education institutions. He remarked that this event to honour them is not just an ordinary function but a “Festival of Knowledge” under the leadership of our Honourable Chief Minister.

Living Periyar!

It was Thanthai Periyar who drove away the caste-based education scheme that sought to destroy us by promoting “half-day education and the rest of the day in caste-based labour.” Today, under the name of the National Education Policy 2020, the Union BJP government is attempting to push students from oppressed and marginalised communities out of education. Our Honourable Chief Minister, as a “Living Periyar,” has sounded the war drum, declaring that we will not allow their saffron policy to enter Tamil Nadu.

State Education Policy: The True Goad!

In this very Anna Library Hall, at the launch of the book “The National Education Policy 2020 – The Rogue Elephant” written by my friend Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, the Honourable Chief Minister was presented with a goad as a symbolic gift to subdue the “religion-crazed elephants.” That was only a symbol — and today, at the launch of the State Education Policy for school education, Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi made its meaning clear to everyone. The State Education Policy released by the Honourable Chief Minister is the true goad!

The Chief Minister’s Greetings to the Students

In his speech, Chief Minister Stalin said, “Whenever I see school students and young people, I feel a surge of new energy! The joy of seeing children study and succeed is a mother’s feeling. This event, where we honour and present awards to government school students entering premier higher education institutions, reflects the maternal spirit of the Dravidian Model government!”

Win with Pride!

“You, who are entering the nation’s premier higher education institutions, are the real heroes! Win with pride and come back. We are ready to lift you onto our shoulders and celebrate you!” he encouraged the students.

He stressed that government schools today are not a symbol of poverty but a symbol of pride, and stated that the admission of 27 students to IITs this year marks a historic milestone.

Schools are for everyone! No one is barred from entering, and we will never allow anyone to be barred! No one should be excluded! We will eliminate educational discrimination! Our education policy will open the doors for you to pursue the education you desire! We will create educational equality! We will introduce knowledge-based education — and above all, it will be rational education! We will not allow regressive ideas that go against science to enter our schools!

This State Education Policy will support our students in competing and succeeding on a global stage! In short, we will take Tamil Nadu — already a leading state in education — to even greater heights!
