Refresher Course for Tamil teachers in private schools!

On July 7, 2025, a refresher course for 1,200 Tamil teachers from private schools was launched at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai.

With an egalitarian vision of “everything for everyone,” the Dravidian Model government has been implementing several education-focused welfare schemes to ensure access to education for all. In line with this, the School Education Department’s budget request for the financial year 2025–26 included a provision stating that

“special training will be provided to Tamil teachers working in private self-financed and other board schools,”

as announced by Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.

The Refresher Course and Its Objectives

As part of this initiative, it was decided to provide training to over 6,000 Tamil teachers from CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, and IB schools. In the first phase, on July 7, 2025, an Innovation Training Camp was launched at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai for 1,200 Tamil teachers from private schools.

The Importance of Mother Tongue Education!

Speaking at the event, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said, “Students and teachers from both government and private schools are part of one family. No matter how many languages we learn, it is essential to learn our mother tongue, Tamil. It is through Tamil that we understand our history and take pride in our identity.” He strongly emphasised the importance of mother tongue education.

At the same time, Raising the question, “When we have Classical Tamil, why do we need a three-language policy?”, he voiced Tamil Nadu’s moral stand on linguistic rights, opposing the Union Government’s attempt to impose Hindi as a third language through the National Education Policy 2020.

He continued, “Even with world-changing technologies, nothing can replace the heartfelt knowledge shared by teachers in the classroom. Teachers carry the responsibility of spreading the pride of the Tamil language,” he said. 

This special training initiative for Tamil teachers working in private, self-financed, and other board-affiliated schools stands as a strong testament to the Dravidian Model government’s long-term vision. By extending its focus beyond government schools to include private institutions, the Dravidian Model government proudly positions itself as a government for all schools.
