Joint Action Committee

Emphasizing the need for fair constituency delimitation, a Joint Action Committee meeting was held in Chennai on March 22, 2025, under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin.

Leaders of more than 20 state-level parties from across India attended the meeting. The nation has praised the initiative taken by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Participants included Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, among others.

Constituency delimitation will harm Tamil Nadu

School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi released a video opposing the Union government’s constituency delimitation. In the video, he firmly expressed his views on the matter, highlighting that the Union BJP government has dared to commit a massive betrayal under the guise of delimitation, targeting southern states like Tamil Nadu as well as some northern states. He pointed out that the government’s actions aim to reduce the number of Lok Sabha seats allocated to Tamil Nadu.

Currently, during various ongoing protests, 39 Members of Parliament are raising their voices to defend the rights of our state. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi emphasized that any reduction in the number of representatives would be a major disaster for Tamil Nadu. If the constituencies are reduced to 31, we would lose 8 of our seats. Since Tamil Nadu has effectively controlled its population and performed exceptionally well, he questioned why we should face such a penalty, and strongly opposed the Union government’s delimitation move.

What Does the Fascist BJP Government Gain?

According to Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, the fascist BJP government believes that it is enough to focus only on states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. They think that by concentrating their political efforts in Hindi-speaking states, they can dominate. The BJP plans to double the number of Lok Sabha seats in Hindi-speaking states, calculating that only there can they achieve a clear majority and form the Union government. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi also pointed out that this calculation was not made earlier; when forming the new Lok Sabha, the seats were structured to a total of 888 to favor their strategy.

What Needs to Be Done?

On February 22, 1999, in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) spoke, emphasizing that the Lok Sabha constituencies allocated to Tamil Nadu based on the 1971 population census should not be reduced; only the boundaries should be redefined. Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has strongly reiterated this point. He stated that the best solution is to redefine only the boundaries without reducing the number of Lok Sabha seats. The Union government has repeatedly undermined Tamil Nadu through denial of education funds, neglect in the Union budget, threats to the three-language policy, and imposition of Hindi. In this context, any reduction in the number of Lok Sabha seats would worsen Tamil Nadu’s situation, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has warned.

What Is the Solution?

Therefore, the Union government must implement the measures emphasized by Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar. Hon’ble Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has already warned of the dangers of population-based constituency delimitation. Rights must not be surrendered; the fight must continue.
