To celebrate the glory of the Tamil language and the universal greatness of the Thirukkural, Honourable Chief Minister M.K. Stalin released a special edition titled “Thirukkural – Treasure of Universal Wisdom” on July 11, 2025, at the Secretariat, under the auspices of the School Education Department. A Remarkable Creation of Collective Effort!

The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, in collaboration with the Chicago Tamil Sangam Foundation, has jointly released this special Thirukkural volume as part of the Muthamizh Scholar Translation Project. This co-publication stands as a significant international effort to bring global recognition to the renowned poet-sage Thiruvalluvar, his universal scripture Thirukkural, and the classical Tamil language itself.

Tamilannal’s nuanced and profound commentary: Maniam Selvam’s evocative illustrations

The “Thirukkural – Treasure of Universal Wisdom” has been released with several unique features that make it easier to comprehend and appreciate the Kural in its entirety and depth. To aid in smooth reading and correct pronunciation, each couplet has been syllabically segmented and printed on high-quality paper. The profound meanings of the Kurals are brilliantly illuminated through the nuanced commentary of Tamil scholar Tamilannal, offering clarity without compromising on depth. Adding visual richness, each chapter is adorned with beautiful illustrations by renowned artist Maniam Selvam, which not only capture the essence of the Kurals but also help readers connect with their meaning on a deeper, more accessible level.

English translation by P. S. Sundaram

To make the wisdom of the Thirukkural accessible to Tamil enthusiasts and international readers across the world, this edition features the precise and elegant English translation by P. S. Sundaram. Published in a bilingual format — Tamil and English, the book has been widely welcomed, especially among students and the younger generation, for its clarity, authenticity, and ease of understanding.

On July 11, 2025, at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat, the Honourable Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin officially released the book “Thirukkural – Treasure of Universal Wisdom”. The first copy of the publication was received by the Honourable Deputy Chief Minister Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin.
